You come across many inspirational stories behind starting a business and launching new and innovative products. However, my story of starting my own business is simple. My name is Iwona, and my Husband name is Yasir. We launched this company in 2015, and it is London based business.
After getting married to Yasir, I have been a Housewife, spending most of my time during the day at home, doing chores, binge-watching shows and Television, baking delicious cakes and cookies, trying out new dishes and finding new ways to keep myself engaged while Yasir is at work. I like to create fancy stuff, utilizing random material and stuff available at home to make minimalistic things and decorations. My friends used to call me DIY junkie. One day, while searching on YouTube for DIY videos, I came across a DIY video of how to make soy wax candles at home. It was just a few minutes video, and so while watching it I decided to make decorative soy wax candles for myself.
Everything was available at home; the tiny lid jars, the essential oils and fragrance, wooden wicks. For soy wax, I had to go the market. I drove to the nearby super market and bought soy wax flakes and drove back home. After coming back, I heated the wax for about few minutes on high flame, and poured the heated wax it into the jars following the DIY video. It took the about 20 minutes to create my own soy scented candles and that day I lighted my house with my home made candles. My husband absolutely loved them. The scented aroma lingered in the whole atmosphere. My house smelled like a mixture of cinnamon, maple butter, Vanilla. Not just Yasir, but my friends also loved them. I would make candles for every occasion and every party. I made few for my mother and gifted my friends as well.
Because of the scented candles, our house had sweet fragrance all the time that was admired by my relatives and almost by everyone coming to our house.
My friends convinced me to start my own home based business of candles, putting my candles on social media and getting orders from the nearby people. I took first step and started from my acquaintances, and using my friends’ connections to give it a shot. I did everything at home. I made varieties of candles. I bought decorative tiny jars and soy wax flakes on wholesale. I tried different aroma and pure essential fragrances. It took me time to grow my business and after sometime, my husband and I decided to convert it onto a larger scale so we created a company in 2015. We hired people, and initiated it taking one-step at a time. Now, I am a stuff working for me, making soy wax candles using pure and natural essential fragrances.
Now I am launching my online store, bringing my scented bookish candles to the world of internet. That was my journey from a simple DIY to launching an online store.
